"I think the world has become small enough and weapons deadly enough, that we can no longer allow children to grow up abused and terrorized, in communities that channel their pain into hatred and acts of violent revenge, whether this is happening in Teheran or Harlem, in the bunkers or the barrios. It is no longer 'safe' to write these kids off, to draw little circles and exclude them from the 'Our Own' that we care for so tenderly. It is no longer 'safe' to assume that their lives have no connection with ours, that we can't be reached. Maybe it never was".
